The Trump Presidency

Press = Good

Russians = Bad

You guys still don't get it do you? When something like this comes up the Repubs on here bust their asses to find enough "info" to deny that Trump did anything wrong, while the Dems bust their asses to find enough "info" to suggest that he did, the same exact thing we saw for the last 8 years except with the sides reversed, while each side always revels in its moral superiority at proving the validity of its beliefs and having "won" over the other side of morally bankrupt aholes.

The fact is we still don't KNOW what really happened in the oval office between Trump and the Russians, just like we don't KNOW what happened between them before. Each side has enough here say from its own to be confident and that's enough, apparently.

until (D) can wrest control of Congress this carnival will go on. and on

This part is the only absolute truth we can be sure of that we've seen on here tonight. Until the Dems win back control of Congress this carnival WILL go on and on......and then it'll be replaced by a different carnival. Hurray us!!!!!!!!!

re: different carnival

Earlier a twitter poster was curious what the scandal de jour was 8 years ago.

Had something to do with someone in Texas (always Texas, ah?) getting duplicate stimulus checks

Yeah...because weaponizng the IRS wasn't a scandal. How about Benghazi? What about this Iran deal?

I think the posters point was in May of 2009 compared to May 2017.
Or if you like 3 1/2 months into the Presidency of 2009 v 2017

It's real easy when the press treats you with lovers gloves. Listen, Obama brought class to the Presidency. He handled the role incredibly well especially with the added pressure of being the first black president. Let's be real here...the press didn't even attempt to cover him without bias.

Aren't they both examples of the same problem?

Even if Trump did exactly as was reported (and denied by McMaster) finding a problem only comes as a result of pursuing worst case scenarios and half-truths. Leaking the details of Oval Office meetings between State level diplomats and the President would seem near treasonous to a society not so consumed with tabloidian drama.

And let's not pretend we haven't shared anything confidential with foreign powers like Russia for a long time now.

Giving the Russians access to the Oval Office at that time (juxtaposed to the Comey firing) was clearly Thump thumbing his power at the press and American Democracy in general. "I can do ANYTHING!" For all we know, the leaks are coming from him. He clearly loves the drama more than anyone.

dismissed by McMaster. Not denied

or better phrased. The story is fake but the leaks are real.

Watch McMaster's statement carefully: “at no time were sources or methods discussed.” WaPo report never said Trump revealed sources/methods.

Our secrets are safe. He isn't the kind of guy to run his mouth to impress people.

Are you suggesting that Trump should have denied the Russian Foreign Minister access to the White House to appease the press? That seems far more undemocratic to me.

Something something alternative facts.

Its a leak about a fake story in which Trump shared some alternative facts with the Russians including the city where this very sensitive source is located. The reason there was a scramble afterwards to notify the CIA and NSA is that it is likely the Russians will be able to figure out the source and decide whether they want to do anything with that information.

I don't mind deploring the leaks. But it strikes me that the bigger problem is the lack of discipline and maturity displayed by the Donald when it comes to handling some extremely sensitive information. What an incompetent idiot.

Already been dismissed.

Not so. The denials are of things (like sharing of intelligence methods) that are not part of the article (the sharing of information about very sensitive sources that makes it easy to identify those sources). It is a non-denial denial.

"At no time were intelligence sources or methods discussed. The president did not disclose any military operations that were not already publicly known. ... I was in the room. It didn't happen," he [McMaster] said.

I guess I'll be the only one who finds it curious that this story conveniently found air just a few short days before the President takes his first trip abroad.

This story "found air" because the President tossed it into the wind, ignoring the ridiculously horrible optics of it. He needed to meet with the Russians because ... ???

That's what the Sec. of State is for.

The WaPo got their information from an allied foreign intelligence service on a routine heads up of "WTF is going on over there" .
McMaster you say denied the story's validity until
