Tim Hudson signs with Giants

23 million? Holy crap.

Braves are screwed if this ownership doesn't pony up money for extensions.

11.5 mil per, is a very good deal for SF, assuming health, surprised we let him walk for that.

Apparently the Braves upped their offer to two years but weren't close with the money. I guess in the market for a veteran now, although they do have five starters. They're in better position to withstand this than most teams are. That said hate to see such a class act leave.

He should have held out for Linecum money.

Wren was only going to go 1 year at $10mill. Can't blame Huddy, can't blame Wren. Tough to go 2 years on 40 year old pitchers. Baseball is a young man's game.

Good for him that he got the deal that he wanted. Good for the Braves, because they wouldn't have paid that much for that long. It forces their hand to pursue another vet starter.

Dang. We'll miss him, but at his age he could either be a steady innings eater, or fall apart at any moment. Can't really afford to give a tenth of our payroll to that.

I wish him the best, except when he plays the Braves.

Agreed. Shame he broke his ankle and he was a good veteran presence, but I recall him getting his titts wripped more often than anything. Good luck to him and San Fran.

Well. this is a kick in the head. First, Braves just cannot be throwing that much money at a 40+ year old pitcher. As said above, he could eat a ton of innings or fall apart. Second, so much for any more hometown stuff; players today will seek the best deal, period. Huddy took less to stay in prior years but I guess the kids' college funds needed a little more padding. Third, it sucks that the last pitch we saw of him as a Brave was when he broke his ankle; I was sure he wouldn't want to end his Braves career like that. Guess dollars and years speak louder.

Last, the FO should look for another veteran starter to eat innings and advise the young arms; bet they'll grab some chump not worth a bag of balls instead of anyone to excite the fanbase. Hope I'm wrong.

I'd expect Huddy to be worth a total of about 3 WAR over the next two seasons. So about 7M/expected WAR is what the Giants are paying. I believe that's the going rate for starting pitching. Neither an overpay or underpay.

I'd expect Lincecum to be worth about 4 WAR over the next two seasons. They are paying him about 9M/expected WAR. That's an overpay.

In both cases though the contracts have the virtue of being only 2 years long. Might turn out better than the six-year deal they handed out to Cain last year.

Agreed. Shame he broke his ankle and he was a good veteran presence, but I recall him getting his titts wripped more often than anything. Good luck to him in San Fran.

Good luck to Huddy! I wish all manner of evils on the rest of that team and organization, though. SF can bite a big one!

Definitely will be missed but I think we could be better off. He was a great leader but I think a guy like Lohse would be a better fit for this team.
