Pay market value for the ones that are available this winter and keep your prospects to use for other upgrades.
We'll just have to agree to disagree here - there's absolutely no scenario you can present that would convince me that trading for Matt Kemp (or Hanley Ramirez) is a good idea.

According to many of their insiders, they feel he's more untouchable now if that makes sense due to his upside. The problem is that Taillon has been setback about a year and half due to TJ and a hernia. One tweet about him was, "He’s more untouchable now than he was before his hernia because they’ll never get equal value w/ him missing two strght yrs." That package won't get him I don't think....although adding Tabata makes it's interesting.
I can see that. They would be selling low, but they would be getting rid of Tabta's contract as well.

All of that makes sense, but it’s not unusual for clubs to deny that a player is available until the moment he is traded. The Braves did just that during the offseason with Evan Gattis and Craig Kimbrel. Teheran’s age and contract make him attractive to other clubs as well as the Braves, despite his 4.53 ERA.
Team plans are subject to change – and sometimes vary according to a player’s performance. Teheran, in fact, is reversing his regression from earlier this season — he matched his career-high with 11 strikeouts against the Dodgers on Wednesday, and has pitched to a 2.81 ERA in his last four starts.
What if the Braves could trade Teheran for multiple pitching prospects and/or a young catcher?
Surely they would consider such a deal. Surely Teheran is not untouchable.

Oh, I definitely agree. I think we pull it off if Dave Stewart resigns to become their GM. LOL. I like their GM though (Neil Huntington), I think he'll run from Hart...The Pirates do match up with the Braves on a lot of fronts though.
Yes. I would unload Julio if a team thinks he can reach a higher level than he is now. Unfortunately I see shoulder problems for Julio developing long term and I can see why they tried to change his mechanics to save his arm in the long run. Sell him and that's even more money to spend even if he does have a team friendly deal.

Ugh!!!! I'm a definite Teheran fan. Staunch as a matter of fact. I think he's the easiest "let's trade him," guy along with Wood in Braves Country. That being said, IF the Braves got an attractive package, I wouldn't take anyone off the table. But it has to be high, high, high upside and for the love of all that's good and evil a BAT along with the pitching.
I just wonder how likely it is that they get a kind of 'knock your socks off' package in the same market where Cueto, Price, Samardzija, Kazmir, Iwakuma, Gallardo, and Shields are available options.
Teams are starting to sour on the 2 month rentals.

I can understand people being down on him. However, he's not that far removed from being our stopper and an all-star. His velocity has been back for more than a few starts and he's also been bitten by some shaky innings. I'm ok if he's dealt, but I am a big fan of Teheran's.
I'm on board with dealing Teheran, but Rosenthal's idea of dealing him for pitching prospects and a young catcher seems interesting. We keep seeing people talk about our front office wanting a young catcher, but who would even be a target out there? I'd love to find a way to get Swihart but that seems unlikely. Susac has been talked about a lot on here, but is he really enough to get back in a package for Teheran? I'm just not sure who else is out there.

Teams are balking at giving up top prospects for rental players but they're still quite interested in grabbing rentals for a stretch run at a reasonable price.
I don't see many teams paying the price for Teheran when they could get a better arm for cheaper (in terms of prospects). Yeah you can keep Teheran for several years, but the biggest reason you're wanting a pitcher is to win it this year.
I say hold onto Teheran until the offseason. A lot more teams will be aiming at competing in 2016 and will be looking for an arm they can control for a few years without spending huge money on free agents. It think Teheran's value peaks then.
