Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

I'm on board with dealing Teheran, but Rosenthal's idea of dealing him for pitching prospects and a young catcher seems interesting. We keep seeing people talk about our front office wanting a young catcher, but who would even be a target out there? I'd love to find a way to get Swihart but that seems unlikely. Susac has been talked about a lot on here, but is he really enough to get back in a package for Teheran? I'm just not sure who else is out there.

Even given Julio's struggles this year, I'd personally prefer to keep him over Wood. Of course, I agree whole heartedly with those who say "everyone should be available for the right package". The only player I think is the one that causes you to say "everyone but..." is Freeman because we simply can't replace his offense for similar money. I think Teheran's extension is one helluva deal given what he's shown and what his upside is. I think it's going to be next to impossible to get Miller or Wood to sign a similar extension, and the team that gets him will get such a great contract that it will need to pay an "Ace-like" premium.

If I were trading Julio, I don't think I could possibly take less than...

Dodgers - Holmes or DeLeon, Darnell Sweeney, and Barnes

Royals - Sean Manaea and Miguel Almonte

Cubs - Gleyber Torres and Billy McKinney

Giants - Susac, Adalberto Mejia, and Mac Williamson

Blue Jays - Jeff Hoffman and Pentecost (I see no way Wood gets them both, but Julio's contract might get AA to bite)

Astros - Michael Feliz, Phillips, and J. D. Davis (sme thing here applies with Wood)

Julio is MUCH more valuable than either Miller or Wood because of his extension (IMO) - if teams aren't willing to pay a premium to get that contract, you just keep him and listen on the other two (who will make substantially more if they choose to go through the arbitration process year-to-year.

Great, great post clv.

Would anybody do a Teheran for Yordano Ventura + prospect(s) (Dozier/Starling/Vallot/Zimmer) deal with KCR? ... could almost throw Peraza + veterans in there to get more.

I would. I doubt KC would do it though, even Ventura for Teheran straight up.

I saw this in one of Bowman's articles. "The Braves have received some calls about right fielder Nick Markakis, but they have made it clear he is not available." Doesn't make much sense. Nick's a good player but he's far from being an elite, untouchable player.

I'd be really tempted, especially if a premium prospect or two was included. Ventura is a major health risk, but his contract is actually just as (if not more) team friendly than Julio's. The question would be has KCR soured on him enough to think that Julio represents a major upgrade. That's not especially clear, although their need for a SP is.

Possibly fear of scaring away future FA's? All I can think of.

Something brewing with #Athletics and Scott Kazmir. He just came out of Bob Melvin's office. Asst GM David Forst also in clubhouse.

And so it begins.

I think the most interesting point in that Rosenthal article is that he confirms what I said a while back - Detroit is "out" on Price this winter even if they don't trade him. The Verlander and Miggy extensions are killing them financially. If they weren't going to pay market value to keep Scherzer, they won't pay it to keep Price either.

Astros would be my guess.

#Athletics trade LHP Scott Kazmir to Houston for RHP Daniel Mengden and C Jacob Nottingham; recall RHP Arnold Leon

Nice deal for Houston. Two highish ceiling guys, but doesn't even ding their system.

When's my parade?!?!?

Astros might be able to re-sign Kazmir to a pretty reasonable contract this winter - great move for them.

Whoever is drafting for Houston is doing a hell of a job. They just got a top of the rotation pitcher for a 4th and 6th round pick.

The Astros are no joke, man. Him and DK will be really good to hold that rotation down. The lineup K's a lot but can absolute mash the ball and is fast. Really fast. Happy to see the franchise succeed.

When the Braves let Hudson walk, Kazmir was a guy I really thought would have been a good fit for the Braves. He has certainly rebounded.

I'd rather have Teheran than Ventura... He's more of a health risk than Teheran. Not to mention he's a bit of a head case.

Insane is insane

Posturing.

The Braves would trade Nick for the right return under the right circumstances. I doubt it's something they are actively pursuing though.

A concern would be the team gaining a bit of a reputation, especially by unceremoniously dumping a veteran like Nick who apparently was only considering Atlanta/Baltimore in Free Agency.

Yeah, it's a business and players should expect it -- and it certainly hasn't stopped people from taking Miami's money. But still.
