Braves in on Yasmany Tomas

Not just you. I would have preferred they kept Heyward and traded J. Upton, but Tomas scares me.

Same here. But instead Heyward is already gone and Justin Upton is on the way out too. This certainly isn't what I had it mind but if we're not careful here it could get worse. We need to start making some good moves (both via trade and free agent signing) and stop making moves that blow up so badly in our faces (BJ Upton signing, CJ extension among the most recent).

Well if Heyward wants 200-250+ million then i'd agree with the move.

I just would have waited to trade him.

Not like we were doing much this year WITH them anyway.

Seems like he's slimmed down a lot since the WBC.

This. I thought he looked great in this clip. Absolutely nothing like Señor Plaintain from the WBC footage.

Hard to tell, but his swing looked simple and not terribly long. Several degrees shorter and about ten less moving parts than BJ.

Count me in the camp about being nervous about this potential risky investment, I hope that our FO is damn confident that this guy is the real deal and will be a potent middle of the order hitter and not another Cuban failure.

And I understand we got to think outside the box, but we are in no shape or form able to take huge risks with upside. This guy needs to produce.

And I sure as hell hope it isn't a PR stunt ala Wren with KK to get a decent player and draw more international interest among fans as well as making us more attractive for future potential free agents, because that one did not work in our favor at all...and it was another idiotic miscalculation and risky move that hindered us. NO MORE of that PLEASE!

According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, Braves officials were in attendance during Cuban free agent outfielder Yasmany Tomas' workout in the Dominican Republic Tuesday.

Bowman said the Braves continue to "aggressively pursue" Tomas, with Assistant general manager John Coppolella and top international scout Gordon Blakeley among the club representatives in attendance. Tomas would fill the hole in right field vacated when the Braves dealt Jason Heyward to the Cardinals. The Diamondbacks, Phillies, Giants and Padres are just a few of the other teams in the mix for the outfielder.

The entire Braves' scouting party is worth noting. According to Bowman, The Braves got a glimpse of Tomas during a workout in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday. Manager Fredi Gonzalez, hitting coach Kevin Seitzer, assistant general manager John Coppolella and top international scout Gordon Blakeley were among the club representatives in attendance.

LOL, first time I read this I had to take a deep breathe as I thought you said:

The entire Braves' scouting party is worth nothing.

Seems to me, if we sign this guy... why don't we just tweak a bit and go for it again in 2015?

You basically replace Heyward with Tomas & Miller. Do some tweaking with 3b and off we go.

Or we could burn it to the ground.

I think that's what the idea was from the start. The offense couldn't be much worse with the guys we had, it makes sense to shake the lineup up.

With the way contracts are going (Panda for 20 mil a freakin year), Heyward will end up being a steal at $22MM a year.

"Tomas has drawn interest from the Braves, Giants, Padres, D-backs and Phillies. The Giants, who recently bid adieu to Pablo Sandoval, could prove to be an intriguing fit. Tomas' agent, Jay Alou, is the nephew of Felipe Alou, who serves as a special assistant to San Francisco general manager Brian Sabean."

Hmmmm.

I think they are going for it in 2015, Yasmany Tomas and Jon Lester are two of the top 10 free agents on the market and they're going after both, I think that speaks for itself.

So we replace one of the few guys who wasn't all or nothing with one who is?

I think we're still offensively flawed.

Trading away 2 guys you can't resign rather than letting them walk for a draft pick is hardly burning it down. If Hart signs Tomas, gets a solid mlb return for JUp, and then signs someone like Aoki, he has pretty much an equally talented team for 2015 as last year as well as tons more total years of player control.
