2015 NFL Draft

On the whole, he was not good last year. 25 touchdowns to 18 picks.

Should he get credit for leading the comeback vs. FLorida 12-24 125 yards 2 td, 4 int? They had more talent than any team they played in the regular season last year by a long shot, but surprisingly had poor QB play.

Not to make excuses because I don't think Winston himself was at all satisfied with the statistics of 2014 . But, let's put the season into context
Talent? - he had one upper classman for WR and 4 Freshmen. An inconsistent running game (solidified by again, a Freshman) and for over half the season a freshman center.

Of those 18 picks I would say that over half were receiver generated, I'd guess 95% others were balls that were forced because, well the kid has a cannon and thinks he can throw into a egg at 45 yards. To my mind that is why kids go to college to learn limitations.

I remember one he tried to throw away to the middle of the field. A college QB mistake. That was maybe the 2nd - 3rd game - never made that particular mistake again.
///////////////

On top of how many INT's or anything else, SCOREBOARD. He won 22-23 games and lost 1 in 2 years

I was here when Randy Moss was here. No, he was not as closely scrutinized.
He was accused of smoking pot

You aren't getting what Im saying. Moss has scrutinized at Marshall when entering the draft. If you don't believe me, watch the 30 for 30. And it was for far more than smoking pot.

A senior TE as well. Possibly the best WR/TE combination in the country. I don't think you can deny they have far great talent than anyone they played except for Oregon.

I get your point, I just don't agree.

I thought the 30-30 on Boz ( as well as the Moss) had a lot of the Winston story.
Could say Iverson as well -

But none of those attracted the hype Winston has.
Question, how many exposes' did the NYT do on the above ---

They (NFL) pretty much know what Winston is and isn't.
A country kid that came to a big college and got hoodwinked by a girl --- happens every day all over the world

Publicity vs Scrutiny ------------- must be a slow day at work

In my time of following sports from the late 1950's to now - I can't think of a more scrutinized non-professional athlete (not named Tanya Harding) than Winston .

Fairly or unfairly - warranted or un warranted

Tebow has been scrutinized far more than Winston. Different reasons obviously (religious beliefs and talent level). If some team signed Tebow tomorrow to compete for their starting Q position, ESPN would spend the next 8-12 months talking about.

ESPN spent weeks breaking down Tebow's throwing/work out regimen while trying to prepare for the draft. Remember when "Tebowing" was a thing? Jake Plummer calling him out for being too religious?

WTF? Talking about different forms of scrutinized obviously. Tebow gets blown for ratings. Winston gets trashed.

It's scrutiny nonetheless. From teammates publicly criticizing him, to analysts breaking down his abilities for months on end before the draft. To Jake Plummer calling too peachy. I mean geez, we'd see Tebow critics teeing off on him even when he was barely seeing playing time for the Jets that last season.

And if you don't like that analogy, lets go with Johnny Football. Since the autograph scandal, he's easily received more scrutiny than Winston. He was a backup practically all season, and you still would be hard pressed to find one week during the season in which ESPN didn't have at least one article about him and the QB battle or reporting on his partying, etc.

I would love that draft or the Titans, CC

I still think we trade down or take one of Amari Cooper/Leonard Williams.... which kinda makes me mad, yet also excited. Both guys are elite talents in any draft class.
