Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

4. Be open to offers, have to be blown away:

Basically anybody else in the organization outside of Freeman, Simmons, or the rest of the top 10 prospects.

Agree with most of this.
Gomes is on a 1 year deal, so not sure what we've give up. I'd pay his way this year if someone gives us anything of value for him.

I'd really have to be blown away on the 4. Unless there is some internal knowledge that Wood is not a long term sign for some reason (concerns over delivery, agent needs, etc). In that case I think I'd be more aggressive. But on the pitchers, there is a glut of big time pitchers available as rentals. I think the time to trade one of the guys in the 4 column is in the off season and probably part of a plan of signing one of the big names as a FA.
 
If Markakis was traded we'd have an obscene amount of money to spend. I like his on base skills but in a couple of years he'll be terrible in the outfield. I'd Def deal him if possible.

Would make sense for the Angels to kick the tires on Markakis, but don't see any prospects that would make sense on our side. Heaney and Sean Newcomb are obviously intriguing, but not sure that they'd give either up for Nick. Outside of those two I don't see much of a match personally.
 
Johnny Gomes is an odd one due to his 16 option that kicks in with 145 more plate appearances. I guess used as a lefty masher only a team could avoid that kicking in.

I think I'd trade Markakis for any prospect you think will be a major league player in 2017. Or a high upside guy. I just don't believe in him moving forward. But hey, he's been better than I thought so far, so maybe I'm just wrong.

And one more hole to plug unless you moved him and kept Maybin. If you trade Markakis for a marginal prospect to get his contract off the books, you still don't have anybody to spend the money on. IF you signed one of Upton or Cespedes to hit behind Fredi and handed CF over to Peraza (and possibly eventually Mallex) you still need a RF.

Like I said, outside of Heaney and Newcomb, they don't have one of those that's better than the options we already have in our system - no Cs, no corner OFs, no 3Bs other than the one we didn't think enough of before we traded him to them.

Depending on how badly they want him, we could attach CJ to him and ask for little in return.

If they trade Markakis and all his salary, I'll take back anything negative I said about John Hart. Even if I don't agree with all his moves. Getting us out from that Albatross before it comes to fruition will be a stroke of genius.

Yah... Heaney has been absolutely dominant since his callup... I can't see any interest for an expensive corner outfielder with zero power involving Heaney. Unless we ate the money and added a couple of decent prospects.
 
11 million an Albatros? How does that make any sense. This is the lowest power output Markakis will have for the next 4 years and he is still a productive hitter. I just don't get this desire to move him at all costs.

I was supportive of the Markakis move at first, but for a corner outfield starter... he's not worth it dude. How do you know this will be his lowest power output for the next 4 years? There is absolutely zero evidence to support that after neck surgery. He is getting paid much more than he's worth and I don't even know how you can argue that with a straight face.

Even Bryce Harper said that he credits his massive power increase to the fact that he was actually able to have a healthy offseason and work out. Markakis couldn't do any of that. This is not a guy who is going to hit 5 homers a year moving forward. I expect him to be in the 12-17 range with 35+ doubles. When he gets moved to LF then we can improve RF defense.

Assuming we'd hold onto Maybin to play RF in that scenario, that wouldn't be a bad idea IMO. The problem with that is that they owe so much more money for the Hamilton deal I can't imagine Moreno would be willing to do that.

Markakis and Johnson for Trevor Gott if he would might work out great though.

Disagree, His power isn't that far down from last year. And he's hitting less flyballs than ever before, so it's more indicative of a change in approach then just a bad year.
