Around Baseball

I think the bad first half for Prado had more to do with trying to impress a new team more than anything. Prado is a damn good player and I miss him.

Actually neither Justin or Johnson will likely get to a 3 WAR unless they go on a Justin in April tear. It's doubtful they hit 2.5 WAR. Prado is almost at 3 right now (2.8). Both Justin and Johnson are at 1.7.

All I'm saying is that the D-Backs fan who were just slamming the trade need to realize they got a lot more than they thought they were getting, and it's not as one sided as it seems when the trade went down.

B-Ref's WAR is not the best for hitters. Any system that says that Justin and Johnson together come up 2 WAR shy of Simmons should be taken with a grain of salt. Between DRS overzealous run valuation and their offensive valuation not being quite as right (JMO) as fangraphs. Fangraphs has them at 2.7, 2.6 and 2.2 for Justin, Johnson and Prado respectively. I don't think anyone in the world would argue that Prado has been nearly as good as Justin and Johnson together.

Unless Delgado turns into Wainwright or a top 5 pitcher, this isn't close.

Atlanta got a MVP type player, and a throw in whose near the league lead in hitting.

Love Prado but he is what he is, he's not gonna get massively better as he ages.

No doubt I would make that trade any day but to see we just flat out robbed Arizona isn't the case. Both teams got exactly what they wanted and we have a great young player who should only get better. Still, to limit Prado to just his numbers is undervaluing the guy. He was such a fiery competitor and loved by everyone in the organization and that goes a lot further then you may think. The guy is the epitome of leading by example. He instantly became my favorite player his first full year when I saw the way he played the game. You won't find any body who will out work Prado on or off the field. Look at how great of shape he has gotten in the past 2-3 years. He didn't look nothing like that when he first came into the league but he has put in the work.

pirates are stuck on 81 wins
4 L's in a row.. a series in texas next..

it would be hilarious if they lost out

In the race for home field I'm a little bummed to see there aren't many games left between the NL Central contenders. StLouis is DONE with Pitts and Cincy! Pitts and Cincy do play each other 6 times but all three of those teams have some series' left with some really bad teams so I don't think we have much of a schedule advantage over any of them, espcially StL.

Dodgers don't leave the NL West for the duration. They will probably finish strong.

Didn't McCann, Freeman, and Heyward miss time the first two months of the season? 3 guys who don't swing at everything under the sun...

i hope the NL central ends in a 3 way tie

also a tie in the AL west + tie for the wildcard spot between BAL & TB. how would selig handle that?

Can't argue with anything in there, including the "anything can happen" stuff at the end. I haven't looked it up but it seems to me that our K rate is down quite a bit from the first two months of the season.
Down "a bit" is right but still in the bottom 3 or 4 each month. July has been our best month for least SOs - 7th. Post All Star we have the 5th most.

Hard to disagree with the Crasnick article. We need Jason healthy and hitting to be a good offensive team.
