How likely is Swanson to rebound?

Yes, I know what it says: "Swanson is young enough that there is some time for him to rebound and be a Phillips/Wilson level player. Of course, there is a significant chance he ends up being more similar to the other 4 guys." Based on the data, there is absolutely no reason to choose between...

    How did we get here?

I agree with the Southcrack77; watching superb Braves baseball for over a decade was great, and I would prefer that to lots and lots of awful seasons punctuated by two seasons that ended with a World Series victory. I also agree that the Marlins got very lucky; they were definitely not as good...

How likely is Swanson to rebound?

Well, actually, my point is that comps aren't likely to work, so the last thing I would want to do is come up with some limited sample set of my own that does no better of a job of predicting future outcomes. And, I contend that there is value brought to the discussion; my argument is that...

Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

Facts are facts, but not all opinions are equally valid. When my car isn't running right, I listen to a mechanic that has proven to be right in the past. If I have a medical problem, I listen to a highly recommended doctor. I might seek a second medical opinion, but not from my mechanic.

Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

He was definitely thought of as a good player to get, but at the time the Braves signed Maddux I remember calling him a right-handed Glavine and a number of people thought that was overstating his (Maddux's) value. He was really good in '93 (obviously - won the Cy Young), but he was great in...

Suntrust Park Begins To Take Shape

Yes, a distant, uninterested corporate owner is NOT what you want. I think that's pretty clear.

    GDT 6/6/16 @SD

This season all sorts of things seem more important and relevant than the game.

    GDT 6/6/16 @SD

I wonder if there could possibly be a more eloquent description of this season than this thread. Game day thread and it's not even mentioned whether the team won or lost.

    Braves get Matusz from o's

As the father of a 14 year old girl, I'd just like to say that many people are actually quite a bit worse.

4/8 Friday Minors Thread: AWESOME pitching

Yes. This is exactly what it was like in the 80's. There really wasn't much to get excited about at the major league level, so I focused on what was happening at the lower levels and waiting for the cavalry to arrive. Little did I realize how amazing the 90's were going to be.

Is there a nother team in baseball with a worse playoff history than us?

Fortune does not always favor the team with $220 million payroll team over the one with the $85 million payroll, but that's where the smart money is. When the Braves were good, things went their way a lot of the time. When they aren't so good, not so much.

Is there a nother team in baseball with a worse playoff history than us?

I think you guys lack perspective. For one thing, it has broken the other way for the Braves, also. The 1992 and 1996 NLCS were both epic comebacks. But, in general, you tend to not have much post season success when you suck. From 1966-1990, the Atlanta Braves went to the post season twice...

Sign in here if you are done watching baseball

I am a Braves fan, not a baseball fan. Since the 90's, I don't even know who won the World Series in a lot of years. I lived in the San Francisco Bay area (Menlo Park) for a number of years, and my sister still lives out there. She's now a Giants fan and she was talking about the Giants...

GDT 9/18/13: Braves (Wood) @ Nationals (Ohlendorf) 7:10 PM

Which is pretty much what I'm saying. Chance, and not inevitable domination of one team by another (or one league by another), was the difference between the Braves winning one World Series and four World Series in the 90's. Heck, in '96 the Yankees weren't even the best team in the American...
