Ferguson....

What would you call him then?

Ultimately, as far as I'm concerned, Brown's complicity or innocence is irrelevant: an officer's first reaction shouldn't be going for her or his gun. Too often, with black youth and black men, it is. Too often, in general, it is. If that's too much for them to handle, then they shouldn't be police.

I'm sorry but the dude got his freaking eye socket broken by a 6'4, 300 lbs individual, that's a big guy. Like should he have gotten his other eye socket destroyed too before being able to use force? What should have he done after having his eye socket blown up?

There is real racism in America and that absolutely sucks. It makes me sick that people are treated poorly and unfairly just because of their skin color. It's beyond stupid to me to act that way towards someone.

With that being said, I just don't believe this case is an example of it based on what I've read so far and in the end will do more harm to the cause than good. Maybe in the long run, I'll be proven wrong but right now, I don't see it.

Look up crime stats in Ferguson and say it's not relevant here. I forget the number but it's like 86% of all arrests in Ferguson are black while like 56% of the population is black.

You'll never get a response to that question. The facts of this event (Brown death / subsequent protests and riots) don't jive with the story some want to discuss here.

I responded to this with a video of journalists getting tear gassed. It was basically ignored.

I thought it was my right to have free speech without getting tear gasses. Boy am I dumb.

I guess it comes down to whether we're going to talk about this specific incident or as a whole. Do I think it's messed up that the police department has only 3 black members when the population is 66% black? Absolutely.

However, I'm talking specifically about this incident. I'm wondering what you've read or seen that is specifically racist about this incident to your knowledge?

Here's article about the statistics in Ferguson.

Make sure to express your free speech in the free speech zone.

I think the issue is that would the cop have done the same thing to 2 white teens walking down the street.

You mean to tell them to get out of the street for holding up traffic? I would hope so simply for the safety hazard.

I dunno about you but on a dead street, I've walked down the street in the middle many times. I never was harassed by cops. And I can bet the tone a cop would use in both situations would be different.

I've heard of too many people getting hit by cars to walk down the middle of the street unless it was absolutely necessary. That's me though, just my personality. There's a sidewalk for a reason and I use it.

As for being harassed, I've had the cops shine a spotlight on me when walking home from work. They didn't say anything and I can't say I was particularly happy about it either, mostly just ignored it and kept to my own business. Did I think it was BS? Absolutely. Did I have a negative impression of them afterwards? Yup. To this day, I've still not had any positive interactions with cops in my life.

With that being said, I just don't see what's racist for telling someone to walk on the sidewalk. I don't care what race they are, if they're holding up traffic, I'm calling them assholes.

Well again, how you say things can change what you mean.

If I say "Can't you get off the road, it's dangerous" and "get off the road" they are doing the same thing as far as goals but the implications of both are totally different.

I remember when I was in college, at JMU. There is an annual party - "Springfest"… You may have heard about it. Actually, you may have heard about the "riots" that took place in 2010.

It was all over the news. Prior to the "riots" starting, Police came from Richmond in riot gear to "prepare" for un-rulely college drunk kids.

Here's the thing. Nobody was doing anything until the swat team showed up. Nobody. I was there. what happened was, swat teams showed up and surrounded the perimeter. And helicopters flew over the fields. Nothing was happening yet. But what happened when we were surrounded by swat teams? Kids started shouting at the cops. Kids threw empty beer cans, because we were told we weren't allowed to continue without being arrested. Guess what. **** escalated. Because that is what happens when you surround folks with a freakin military.

Now, the cop(ck) suckers will say us college kids were wrong. And we deserved to be tear gassed, and shot with rubber bullets. But I was there. I'm telling you that there were no issues (other than loud music) until the military came in.

Another day in the land of the free.

You should have just went home and watched TV to learn more about the situation.

I agree but do we know what the tone of the conversation was? Without knowing the facts or tone of the conversation, I don't see how one can leap to the conclusion that it was racist.

Like thethe I'm making a logical conclusion. THe cops in the city show a massive bias towards punsihing blacks. So therefor this cop as a representation of the department was making a racist decision (God I love logic burning thethe)

And what percentage of the working/lower class in Ferguson are African American? That's the real numbers that matter. The truth is, the majority of African Americans are either working or lower class. The overwhelming majority of crimes in America (and I imagine, all over the world) are committed by the working/lower class.

He's lying which doesn't surprise me. Many of my friends went to JMU, this block party, and several other block parties there. The crowd got out of control and people were being sent to the hospital bc they were rocked with beer bottles and there was at least one stabbing.

For video proof : http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-431337

CNN PRODUCER NOTE This iReporter told me, 'This is the annual block party at James Madison University at the end of the year.' He said the crowd swelled to thousands. 'People were throwing beer bottles around in the crowd for no reason. When I started the video, people were aiming their bottles at a group on the porch and trying to hit them. Eventually as you can see, someone on the porch throws a lawn chair into the crowd. The crowd eventually broke several windows on the house and started to knock down the deck. I stayed for about 30 minutes and noticed 3 different people with severe cuts. One person ran past me with holding his eye with blood running down his face. I decided to leave when I beer bottle smashed on the back of someone's neck about 10 feet in front of me. About three hours later the police showed up with tear gas and riot gear. By the time the police showed up, the crowd was almost all gone with less than a thousand people still in the area.' He went on to say, 'Once they shot tear gas, the drunken crowd lit dumpsters on fire and pelted police.'
