GDT 6/13/19: Keep the steak alive

They were wrong on a whole group of prospects they blew a yuge amount of $$ on.

And cheated to get. Don’t forget that. They were an embarrassment.

The only reason the rebuild succeeded a well as it has is because Coppy got banned and we were still a well run organization from the bottom.

I shudder to think of how Coppy would have sabotaged our window if he had been given the 2018 offseason.

They drafted well. But the punishment was the deal breaker. You get banned for life then you are a failure and a disgrace. Hopefully we can start winning so we can stop living in the 90’s as if that was some magical formula we can repeat. Sure grab 5 hall of famers and assemble a team and you probably have a good chance to win. Even with an idiot managing.

I’m not really sure what you’re talking about in this post.

The rebuild sure COULD have gone better pitching wise, but most rebuilds take 4+ years.

But it is crazy looking at next year, and Soroka is the only dependable SP the Braves have lol.

If you think the Braves rebuild went bad, the Phillies rebuilt for like 5-7 years, and all they have to show from it is Nola and Hoskins from their farm.

I enjoyed listening to one of the Padres announcers last night during their late rally that came up short. He had been going on about Jackson having 6 blown saves saying we can get this guy. Then after the great catch by Markakis and he seemed frustrated, then he was like oh crap now there is two outs and only the pitcher left to hit. Jackson of course made that interesting before striking him out on a fastball.

They tried to trade away Ozzie. Coppy was a clown and Hart a smug moron. Except for trades with Dave Stewart they did poorly.

When we win the World Series I hope we give Stewart a championship ring.

They tried to trade Ozzie about the same as they tried to trade Riley. Allegedly, according to one report.

Most of the time I don’t either. Just that I think the Johns drafted well but otherwise we’re ****. Also, The 90’s have haunted us for what seems like forever and I am ready to turn that page so guys like chip and others stop referencing it like it is our secret mantra.

I'm okay with whatever we do, as long as its in the spirit of the Braves Way. That is the single most important thing when it comes to winning a baseball game. Braves Way

I dunno. This remains an open question. We were generally not drafting high in the Wren years. But those drafts (2010-2014) produced Simmons, Wood, Gattis, Ahmed, Drury, La Stella, Caratini, Sobotka, Webb.

Our first picks in those years were #35, #28 #21, #31, #32

In the Hartcoppy years, we picked at #14, #3, #5. In those years, we often had multiple extra picks in the early rounds. So I would hope we got more out of those drafts. Adjusted for where we were picking and the number of extra picks, I'm not so sure the results are so great. I've always loved the 2015 draft. But the next two don't look so great, considering where we were drafting.

meh. that's an overall unimpressive haul from Wren. he found one (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) SP in all those years. that's an absolute killer. bunch of fringe, meh players, and then Simmons. regardless where you draft, you have to find more than one SP. that's absurdly poor. i guess he "found" Minor, but we don't have to delve into the history of that pick.
Soroka, Riley, Minter weren't high picks.
Wentz, Muller, Wilson weren't high picks. still a lot to be determined there.
there's still too much left to be determined with 2017, too...but Waters was a 2nd rounder.
Wren did a poor job of finding actually good players. some of those 1st round picks, while late yes, were so terrible. Gilmartin. Sims. Hursh. Davidson. Back of the 1st round, yeah. But still absolutely brutal 4 year stretch of 1st round picks. to get nothing of value from a single one of them is turrrrrrrrrrrible.

t

I said we had extra high round picks in those years. By high round I mean first round, supplemental, second, and third.

The extra picks I am specifically referring to are Soroka (extra first round), Riley (supplemental before the second round), Minter (supplemental before the third round), Wentz, (supplemental before the second round), Cumberland (supplemental before the third round).
