Hector Olivera signs with the Dodgers

This guy is the Marlins beat reporter for the Miami Herald. I find this hard to believe, personally. If the Dodgers have offered $77m, I don't know what in the hell he's waiting for.

@clarkspencer
#Marlins made $53m offer for Hector Olivera, but backed away after hearing #dodgers offered $77m, source says. #padres 52m; #braves 44m

@clarkspencer
#Marlins offer was for 7 yrs, but made to previous representative, as were other figs. No telling how matters have changed with new rep.

And the 7/$53 million fits right in the range he should fit. If we can get him for less than $8 million AAV, count me in.

He deserves Chris Johnson money whatever position he plays.

I'm not buying that reported 77 million offer from the Dodgers. My guess is thus far that the top offers are similar in AAV but range different in years. And the shorter deals are probably the highest in AAV, but it might not be by much.

Of course it could be the media is just as off on their rumors here as they were on Moncada, etc. Time will tell.

He's still not getting franchise player money. Unless you think Melvin was also given a franchise player contract...

What do you believe franchise player money looks like for a player never having stepped in a major or minor league batters box?

Slightly more than 7/$53 million since Rusney Castillo got 7/$75 million.

But maybe that's just me.

lol if the Dodgers offered $77 mil he'd already be a Dodger. He ain't getting that.

Also worth noting that Braves 'franchise money' is not in the same ballpark as LA Dodgers 'franchise money'.

BJ Upton was the biggest FA contract the organization ever handed out, so ...

Heyman: According to sources, the Dodgers have recently requested a second MRI on the elbow of the hard-hitting Olivera – the next great international player ready to sign with the big leagues – and at least initially it is believe Olivera declined to provide that.

---

This keeps getting weirder.

Yup. And if the Braves can confirm (even loosely) that his representatives declined to have another MRI done, it's time to rescind the offer on the table and RUN (not walk) away.

I have been one of the biggest supporters of signing Olivera, but now I'm starting to get cold feet... the injury shroud and the whole process has just been a side show. You'd think he'd want to hurry up and try and get in camp with his team considering he hasn't played a full season in forever.

I read somewhere on twitter days ago that after the UCL rumor Olivera did a new video with him throwing to show his arm is fine. But the way these rumors are going who knows what is true or not.

@JesseSanchezMLB
Sources: Agent Greg Genske, who represents Hector Olivera, expected to meet with the Braves in Orlando on Friday. ATL remains in the mix.

If we truly remain in the mix that probably means a lot of these rumors are off on their numbers (esp. the 77m offer rumored), just as they were with Moncada etc. It also might be teams are playing up injury concerns in the media in an effort to get Olivera cheaper (or to keep his price within the range needed for their team to sign him).

It's at the point that I feel like if we get him, there has to be something wrong with him. Is that called fan insecurity?

No that's called being a Brave fan of late, as it seems at times whatever can go wrong does, esp. since last ST when we lost Medlen and Beachy back-to-back.
