Hector Olivera signs with the Dodgers

Kendrick and Uribe are stop-gap solutions, neither should hurt them from getting Olivera.

Try reading slower and you might understand better what is stated. The point was that the Dodgers have solutions for this year so they can take their time with Olivera.

I agree that the current MLB solutions at 2B and 3B for the Dodgers are stop-gap. But they're all pretty good players: Kendrick, Uribe, and Justin Turner are three good players to cover two spots. And the Dodgers have an elite 3B prospect in Corey Seager. 3B is thought to be Olivera's long-term home and Seager is very comparable to Yoan Moncada from a talent perspective. It says a lot about Olivera that the Dodgers are pursuing him so heavily, because he does not fit their organization from a positional need standpoint.

Agreed. However, I am not convinced the Dodgers are as serious about signing Olivera as reported. It may be they see him as someone worth signing at a certain price and if they cannot get that price they pass. Further, we both know if they want him bad enough they can outbid us and the Padres.

I'm not sure this source [DOB] is any better than the "14 year old kid" as far as Olivera goes, but I decided to post it anyway. :)

@DOBrienAJC
#Braves are still in race for Cuban free agent Olivera, but I'd be surprised if they offer more than 5 yrs. Certainly won't offer 7.

MLBTR adds along with noting the DOB tweet:

"Of course, a recent report indicated that Olivera has yet to be made a six-year offer, so if Atlanta is willing to move its bid up to the five-year range it could presumably have a shot."

Kendrick is a borderline all star... Uribe is still a very good hitter if healthy and then the Dodgers have one of the best 3B prospects in the game.

The #Marlins are no longer in bidding for Hector Olivera

Wonder if Jeff Todd has been reading this thread - "Though the Marlins never seemed to be the front-runners for his services — after all, the club just dealt for a second baseman and third baseman while extending two corner outfielders this offseason, leaving no obvious immediate fit" sounds a lot like what I said last week. LOL

I just never was able to fathom Loria giving the OK for them to spend $53 million on a player they didn't have an open spot for. Had they not traded for Prado, they'd have made all the sense in the world as a target. Good thing for us IF Olivera turns out as hoped - how much better would Miami be with Eovaldi AND Olivera instead of Martin???

Olivera update from DOB last night. No way Olivera will be ready to play by opening day at this point. We're two weeks out and he still needs (1) an agreement, (2) a physical, (3) a work visa, (4) and two or three weeks of "spring training" activities.

@DOBrienAJC
Still considering his options, his agent said tonight. RT @Albright_Chris: @DOBrienAJC Any new news on Hector Olivera?

Welp.......

@Joelsherman1
Strong sense Olivera is NL West fight between #Dodgers #Padres. Likely finalized by Wed. Likely 5- or 6-yr deal.

The Braves are going to make one last push and focus on the signing bonus and an option year or possibly even two (based on performance and playing time).

@kileymcd: While Hector Olivera has a new agent, some teams involved told me they're turned off by years/upfront bonus demands, not surprised by delays
