NBA Thread

Well, its 43% shooting and almost 37% shooting from 3 in just 20 minutes a game. Not bad for a 21 year old in his first real NBA action. I'm telling you he will be a key piece to this team moving forward. Not a star of course but a damn good player. He can handle the ball and his length causes a decent amount of turnovers. He needs to bulk up because he gets abused when opposing players post him up but the kid has a really good offensive game.

Also, Perry Jones is going to start getting more playing time.

Perry Jones is awful, stop it. Lamb is Nick Young...if you want to get excited over that, enjoy.

Keep that thought my friend. Both of them will prove you wrong. I haven't seen much of Nick Young so I am not sure if that is a good comp at all. All I know is that Lamb is going to be a good piece for this team moving forward.

Perry Jones has greatly improved his three point shot and can guard the 2-4 position. He will get some playing time.

thethe would rather have ibaka over harden...why am i even surprised?

In a vaccum Harden is a better player than Ibaka. For the Thunder Ibaka is better because of the fact that both KD/RW are better than Harden so its the law of diminsihing returns when you have ball dominating wing players.

Ibaka is a very good player who gets better every year. He is even flashing some impressive post moves this year but is still a big time work in progress.

He's a better fit next to Russ and KD.

If both signed for the same amount, you keep Harden, no doubt.

But Harden was only going to sign for 5/80, so what could they do?

Keep him and let him walk for less than they got for him?

From David Thorpe ESPN:

16. Jeremy Lamb, Thunder
Lamb is exactly what it appeared he would be when he came out of UConn -- a terrific pure shooter who can make catch-and-shoot shots and other shots that come from moving without the ball. His lack of ball skills and his high center of gravity, though, keep him from being more elusive off the dribble and thus keep off the free throw line.

But as a shooter next to Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, he's an excellent fit. The Thunder are even adding some screening actions for him to get him more open jumpers.

He's a shooter, aka Nick Young....thanks for backing me up.

Like I said, I haven't seen enough of Nick Young to speak to that comparison but I would take some of his statlines for Jeremy Lamb on this Thunder team. You have said numerous times though that Lamb was a scrub.

I've said countless times, he isn't a starter....he's the 7th-8th guy off the bench on a good team that will score 9-10 points a game and not do much else. Go look up the stat-line I projected when you asked me.

I think he could become a borderline starter based on what I have seen. I've been pretty much on the ball when it comes to the Thunder since I watch all their games. I suppose I could be wrong.

Thabeet, PJ3, Maynor, Aldrich, Ibaka being the best defensive big, etc, etc, etc

I only said Thabeat would be a backup. He probably isn't that. Maynor was excellent prior to his injury.

How do we know what PJ3 is going to be? He is a second year player. The Thunder love this kid.

Ibaka is one of the best defensive bigs in basketball. There is no question about that.

He's not in the top 5 for defensive players...as for PJ3, what do you expect a team to say about a young player?

I disagree on Ibaka but there is no way to objectively confirm that.

They could say nothing about PJ3 if they didn't like him. He just in a tough spot because the team is deep and he backs up Durant who plays all the time. Basically every time he has been on the floor this year he has been a positive on the team. Once Brooks smartens up and ditches Perkins there will be more minutes to allocate to the rest of the team. PJ3 can shoot, he can defend, and he can rebound. He will find time soon. There is nothing wrong with a player coming along slowly. He would get more minutes on most teams.

I keep having a recurring argument with my friend. He says no one dominated defensively like SHAQ, no one messed with him in the paint, they were afraid to go in the paint on him, and that Mutombo got dominated more than he did.

I point out that Mutombo is universally considered one of the best defensive players of all time and Shaq isn't even close. To him, that doesn't matter. He watched the two play, and knows that Shaq wasn't messed with. I'm not even sure what his argument is, but I think it's that Shaq was more dominant defensively? Or in the last 5 minutes he'd rather have Shaq on d? Idk. Thoughts?

In his early days Shaq was the best defensive big in the game because of his combination of quickness/strength/leaping ability. He athletic ability wore down much quicker than Mutumbo so over there career Mutumbo was the better defensive player but in their primes I think Shaq dominated more.

I watched a ton of him at Baylor, 2 things he does not do well are defend and rebound...he's a poor defender and an average rebounder, at best.
