Rosenthal: Fredi will be fired, possibly by end of the road trip

How can anyone say Fredi lacks decision making when his decisions are always questioned over and over.

Would not be surprised at all if they're already talking with Black behind the scenes. Not sure he'd be my favorite option, but would be a clear step forward.

I'm a fan of Bud Black. Always thought he was underrated with the Padres. I felt like he did a decent job without a lot of talent.

I'm not that high on Black, but that's mostly due to my bias about pitchers being good managers. It's quite rare.

Well if Nightengale is whispering smoke, there is definately fire.

Not sure if I'm 100% behind Bud Black, but I'm glad they are looking at doing something.

Whatever they do, I want to see them go back to Leo's throwing program for the pitchers. I feel like we will see a drastic decrease in arm injuries if we did.

It sure sounds like the end is nigh.

Gonzalez said he had just gotten off the phone with general manager John Coppolella and said he told his boss: “There are only three outcomes: 1) Fire me. 2) Give me a vote of confidence through the rest of the season. 3) Pick up my 2017 option. … I am good with any of this.”

Well, options 2 and 3 are off the board. I spoke with Coppolella, and he mainly did not want to discuss the status of his manager. But clearly there will be no vote of confidence or picking up of Gonzalez’s option. There was internal sentiment to ax Gonzalez last year when the Braves began 42-42, and then finished 25-53. Gonzalez is well-liked inside and outside the organization, but there are questions about his strategy skills, especially in manipulating a bullpen, and one person close to the decision-makers said the perception is the Braves would like to change the subject sooner than later.

. . .

“It is hard for me [to talk about Gonzalez’s status] because I care about him greatly,” Coppolella said. “But we have to find ways to get better.”

This sounds good too dak, I like the Bud Black suggestion as I've said since last year:

MLBTR: "The Braves are weighing whether now is the time to part ways with manager Fredi Gonzalez, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. If Gonzalez is fired, he’d likely be replaced from within on an interim basis. But the organization could well look to veteran skipper Bud Black in the long run, Nightengale suggests.
While Gonzalez makes a rather easy target given the club’s start, Nightengale says that the club’s higher-ups don’t view him as somehow being solely responsible. Still, the sense is that things shouldn’t be as bad as they are. As Mark Bradley of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes, the Braves have already cycled through plenty of roster options in an effort to spark some improvement."

this is the same front office (mostly) when Joe Maddon became available came out and said they were not going to speak to him

absurd that they said that just a short time ago when everyone knows how bad Fredi was/is etc

To be honest, if I was Maddon and had the choice between the Cubs and Braves....i'd take the Cubs 100% of the time.....their talent was already developed and ready to go.....ours wasn't even in our system

I'm not saying he would have come here etc

I'm saying it's absurd that you don't even talk to him. see what he wants and his thoughts etc

when someone like that becomes available, you at least talk to them to see your chances

our FO came out and said they weren't going to talk to him
