2020 Trade Deadline Thread

Why wouldn't Cleveland just hold Clevinger for another couple of months and move him in the offseason if they are willing to take a Waters headline type deal? It just doesn't make sense for them unless they can flip what they get from Atlanta for what they need now. They aren't going to plug Waters and/or a Contreras into a hoped for WS run.

The Gallo thing makes a little sense for them. But that makes about as much sense as the Braves sending Cleveland Ozuna while trading for Gallo.

I just don't see it. BUT, if Cleveland is willing to move Clev for something that doesn't help them now, then buyer beware. Something's up.

IF Ty France, C Luis Torrens and RP Andres Muñoz going to Seattle, as
@JimBowdenGM
,
@Ken_Rosenthal
and
@dennistlin
said. So far:

Padres get: Austin Nola, Austin Adams

Mariners get: Taylor Trammell, France, Torrens, Muñoz

One more player, believed to be a RP, going to Padres.

@RyanDivish
: Taylor Trammell, Luis Torrens, Ty France and Andre Muñoz from Padres to Mariners for Austin Nola, Austin Adams and Dan Altavilla

Have you actually looked at what they're getting from DeShields and Perez?

DeShields is a younger Inciarte, and Perez makes Flowers look like an All-Star.

And you actually think Waters and Contreras would be significantly better this season?

I'm not sure other than draft some pretty good players with high picks that Preller has ever made a particularly good move.

But I guess he's got a good club in this weird season so everyone is going to blow him.

Because pitchers are insanely volatile, and Clevinger could very well be at peak value. We’ve seen teams like the Tigers absolutely waste the trade value of guys like Fulmer and Boyd because “they didn’t have to trade him now”, so the Indians might be willing to pul the trigger on a trade now.

If the Indians aren’t as high on Clevinger as another team. If the Indians view Waters as a future impact bat in the OF. If the Indians are convinced they have enough arms to cover the rotation for the medium term without him. If they can flip some of the prospects in the return for OF help this year.

I can see many reasons the Indians would be motivated to trade him. How many of them turn out to be reality is obviously unknown to anyone but the Indians.

Why are the Padres acquiring all of these bats anyway? Don’t they lead the league in slugging and have one of the best offenses in the league?

Their C production has been bad. But that's alot to give up for a 30 year old C.

Unclear what Padres will do with current catchers, Austin Hedges and Francisco Mejía. Both have options. SD could carry three catchers. One or both could be moved. Pads STILL not done. SD confident two new veteran catchers working with Larry Rothschild can learn staff quickly
