Post Post-Heyward Discussion Here.

Well I'm pretty sure he had a bad injury to deal with in 2013 and last year he was pretty close to that mark. Maybe it gets worse and thats a valid argument but for his career he has been a 350 OBP guy.

Markakis isn't the same player he was pre-injury...he's not in his prime anymore....he's not the 300 hitter with 20 HR's and a 850 OPS, that guy is gone.

He has a slash the last 2 years of:

273 / 334 / 365 / 699 with bad defense and no range.

You want to give that guy 45 mil for 4 years when he's 31?

Well salaries are exploding now so you are going to have to pay money for players. I would have rathered it be a 2-3 year deal but I'll wait to see the results before I condemn it. I understand the plan. I'm just hoping that Markakis can not be a black whole in the lineup.

They have a weird way of rewarding their pitching that they love so much, they reward them with the worst defensive OF in baseball.

1st off Gattis is going to be the worst defensive outfield in baseball.

I only watch the braves, so no idea how good Marky is. But there is no way he's the worst. I know ppl say his range is awful, but he did win a gold glove. I know there are biases and other issues where the best guy usually doesn't win the gold glove. But the worst guy does not win the gold glove.

I think the Braves are not valuing right field D the way posters on here are. I think they are looking for a strong arm in RF and a bat. They may be 100% wrong. I will say I'm not paying 20+ million a year for elite RF defense, not unless I'm the Yanks, Sox, or Dodgers.

I meant OF as a whole, not calling Markakis the worst.

I'll refer your to ramadons post above, I think that pretty well sums it up.

It is the most logical chain of events staring you and yeez in your face and you choose to ignore it. Swell.

Heyward could have budged a little. What he described are contract talks, and they go both ways but apparently didn't . So he apparently didn't want to be here as bad as he says publicly after he was shipped off.

What? You mean Markakis isn't better than Heyward defensively? That woman on Facebook lied!

Easy fix. Trade Justin, Gattis, Minor, and someone else if it takes it for Gray, Norris, and Reddick (and Otero if the 4th on our side is someone like Bethancourt). Markakis, BJ (or hopefully someone else), Reddick is a good defense in the outfield.

Not ignoring anything....what's so hard to understand about the Braves never offered him a deal? Again, just because player A asks for X it doesn't mean the team has to offer it. They can offer whatever they want and if Heyward says take a hike, then at least you can say you tried. His agent says he wanted 250 mil, who cares???? No one listens to agents, its negotiating.....this isn't a new concept.....the Braves come off looking like naive idiots.

So by your logic the Braves could have offered 15-18 million per year and you would have been happy with them?

To you. I am starting to realize that shouldn't shock me.

Furthermore, he could have come to Wren and gone around his agent and said that he liked the core and wanted to be here. He didn't. Smoltz did it, im sure Chipper did it. Hell Mac signed a team friendly deal. Frenchy turned one down... Im sure that paints the FO as racist but the opportunity was there man.

Yes, what's so difficult to understand about this? Would you be happy if OKC just let KD walk away without making an actual offer because they assumed something?
