What's next?

I'm with you. Wheeler plus Comfort at least. Regardless, we need to hold onto our young controllable players.

Assuming you mean Conforto. Just a guess (although a quite good one), but willing to bet they're not moving him since he's their LF.

Do you really believe Inciarte is worth Wheeler AND Conforto?

Wheeler and Nimmo might be a pretty decent fit (though I'm not big on Nimmo). Problem is that you have to make them overpay since they're the Mutts. Maybe Wheeler and Jhoan Urena.

Definitely agree the Mets would have to overpay to get him. I just have a hard time believing they would trade Conforto alone for Inciarte. Conforto looks like a middle of the order masher. Wheeler and Nimmo would be a very good package

And I agree, I don't want to trade Inciarte. But if he were to be moved, I am not big on Soler or Baez.....so I threw an option out that was highly unlikely....I want to see what Inciarte can do this year.

You never trade a player just because. I assumed that goes without saying. Your last line is part of it. Will Ender ever have more value than he has right now? Is his Defense going to get better? Will he develop power? Will his OBP get above his average of .330? So if you're rebuilding why would you not look at trading a player who is at his peak value and in demand when you have other holes?

Will he ever have more value than he has right now? I don't know, quite possibly, since he was 24 last year? Even if he doesn't increase his value, he's unlikely to see a dip over the next 5 years, and he's already valuable.

I mean, we're saying Inciarte as a 24-year-old can only go down from here, yet Soler as a 23-year-old has massive potential left?

I just don't get it.

I did mean Conforto. Spell check got me. I don't believe he is worth that much, but point is, I'm hopeful that if we do trade Inciarte, we will get another mlb ready bat coming our way. Getting more pitching wouldn't make any sense.

Then again, this organization seems to love the idea of having nothing but pitchers in our minors lol.

They're two completely different players. Just look at their minor league stats compared to their major league stats. I'm sure you can see how there is a difference in their games, and how one may be at his value now and the other could be in line for a breakout year. I like Ender, but he's a matured stock whose value to a contending team is much higher than that of a rebuilding team.

Julie DiCaro, Cubs beat writer, says Cubs are internally discussion if Inciarte is worth what Braves are asking. She says it would be Soler plus. Sorry don't know how to link to Twitter.

That's what it would need to be, IMO. He's a plus defender, good hitter and he's fast. He hits enough to overcome his meh OBP.

Agree on the high price. I think ppl are overstating his offensive value.

He is an avg hitter with almost no power and limited walks. Good news is he's a plus defender at a premium spot in CF....prob plus plus at a corner. He's under control and he's cheap. He's not a toolsy guy so he probably is what he is at this point. Babip may move him around some in traditional stats but you know the ball park. That's a valuable piece. Especially coming out of the BJ wilderness.

I get that they're different players, but Inciarte's offensive improving is more likely than Soler's defense improving. Sure, Soler's offense will likely improve, but he was far less valuable last year than Inciarte, so even significant improvement may not overtake Inciarte in overall value.

I guess this goes back to that those that think Ender is the same as Jose Abreu cause they have the same WAR. I'm not in that crowd.

The Jose Abreu from last year? Yes, I think they have pretty comparable value. The Jose Abreu from 2014? No, Abreu is more valuable if he's going to hit like that.

But if this is the case, and you view an .850 OPS with no defense or value elsewhere as more valuable overall than a well-rounded player who offers great defense at a premium position and a decent bat, then we're just never going to agree.

Pretty good article about a Soler for Inciarte swap:

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/where-the-cubs-go-with-jorge-soler/

Basically details what we all already know...Soler is a guy that could turn into anything from a 1 WAR turd to a 5+ WAR beast in the middle of the lineup. Inciarte is a pretty sure bet to be a solid 2-3 WAR guy in CF for the next 5 years. Since most of his value is wrapped up in defense, he has most likely already peaked. Since the Cubs want to win now, they might be willing to trade the lottery ticket for the sure thing.

The Cubs would have to add more to the deal, so my views on the trade would depend on who the extra piece is.
