You absolutely can trade a backup catcher IMO.

I think a possible backup catcher could be moved for much less than a top 10 player.

To me it seems the most likely result is that Acuña is still a really good player and the chance he just sucks now forever is about 3%.

That's interesting to me and I didn't know that. I would have assumed they would be taxed in their state of residence regardless as it's a salary rather than a per diem or single event contract. Is that specific to professional athletes?

Pretty rare that any team solves two position problems in one trade.

I'm not sure "losing Travis to FA" is the correct frame to the Braves declining a team option.

Also, while the risk of Soto falling apart for whatever reason is tremendous, that's present whether there is an opt out or not. While it is certainly to the player's favor to have the opt out to get more money or more years or just change scenery, it should be a minor concern for the team...

I think the back end of that deal is so far away it effectively doesn't matter. I wouldn't have a problem with it, but I can't imagine they would choose to do it.

The GM bad mouthed Montgomery so hard it's hard to imagine that you'd need to give anything of value. Maybe they would pay you. The As got no return at all for Murphy.

    Jorge Soler to the Angels

I don't quite understand why the Angels assigned surplus value to Soler.

Could you explain why it would be a significant tax hit? I think it might be a year of results too soon but wouldn't think tax hit would be much.

Buying low on Montgomery is not the worst idea though I think having the DBacks pay most of his salary is preferable.

Braves fire Seitzer and assistant hitting coach. Also Fasano.

I didn't listen when I was 24 and I wasn't a world class athlete with immediate success at professional level.

I'm not sure "swing hard at pitches in the zone" is a secret sauce that the Braves coaches haven't figured out. Most of the Braves home developed players have exceeded their prospect evaluations and what more realistic minded posters projected for them. When you draft for pitching as...
